Speaker Arnavaz Barshan

Director of Design, Hospitality

Arnavaz Barshan is an award-winning designer with more than 18 years of experience in the hospitality flooring industry, known for her vibrant, contemporary and transitional style. Barshan’s multi-faceted role at Durkan has evolved over the past six years, working across product design and sales. She now heads the custom and creative team as director of design for hospitality.

With cutting-edge vision and an artistic approach, Barshan has brought to life a new collection for Durkan every year since 2015. She knows how to precisely push the limit in her designs to generate excitement while remaining widely appealing to all. Her work has been known to withstand the test of time, especially her first collection – Lakir – which continues to be a top seller preferred by architects and designers.

Barshan established her expertise in textiles in India, placing first in her state in the textile design board exam. She further honed her skills at the Savannah College of Art and Design, where she received a BFA in fibers.

Speaker Mark Page

Senior Director of Creative Design and Development

Growing up in England amid stories of family weavers and technical craftsmen, Mark Page is the fourth generation to make his livelihood in carpet manufacturing, and knows the industry inside and out. His family’s involvement spans the full gamut, from design to manufacturing and dyeing, and even installation. Now as Mohawk Group’s senior director of creative design and development, he combines personal experience with generations of knowledge to ultimately create diverse and complex flooring that is not just driven by design but by the singular needs of Mohawk Group’s commercial clients and Durkan’s hospitality clients.

Stressing the importance of listening to the market, Mark has led his team toward designing many award-winning products. He is especially proud of his team’s work on Lineate, a colorful enhanced resilient tile inspired by ombre, gradient and striated textile visuals; Nutopia, an award-winning Living Product carpet plank collection that takes its cues from biophilic design in urban city centers; and Durkan’s Lakir, a Definity broadloom inspired by the simplicity of lines with soft shadowy textures and a tonal layered quality. He played an integral role in the rebranding of Durkan to appeal to higher end markets, expanding opportunities for Mohawk’s hospitality brand, and he also helped drive Mohawk Group’s segmentations efforts across design.

Flooring no longer is seen as a commodity, according to Mark. He says creating a warm, hands-on boutique experience for customers helps them form an emotional attachment to the design before the sale even happens, making them value their purchase. He has dedicated himself to flooring design since 1987, when he started working as an associate in custom carpet design production. He is an active member of IIDA, ASID, NEWH and the Color Marketing Group.

Speaker Framarz Mistry

Director, Design Technology

Having worked in the architecture and interior design visualization industry for 10 years, Framarz Mistry is responsible for all the visualization technology needs for Mohawk Group and their clients, from state-of-the-art simulations and room scene renderings, to online tools that assist designers with adding their personal style to their spaces. He has been responsible for establishing the Visual Interactive Studio (VIS) at Mohawk and led the development, and implementation of award-winning virtual reality technology in all of the company’s showrooms across North America. Currently, he is leading the development of Mohawk’s web-based real-time carpet recoloring and simulation tool – Personal Studio. Framarz earned a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the Birla Institute of Technology in India and a master’s degree in interactive design and game development from the Savannah College of Art and Design.
